AmSafe Bridport has an opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Supply Chain Manager to join us in this key role at our head office in Bridport Dorset.

AmSafe is a worldwide market leader for cargo restraints and protection systems in aviation and defence; we design, develop & manufacture world-class engineered textile solutions for the safety & securement needs of the global aerospace and defence industries.

Working with major aircraft manufacturers, our products include airframe safety systems, aircraft safety equipment, cargo restraint solutions and RPG protection.

The successful applicant will be required to achieve and sustain the on-time arrival of quality compliant materials and components in full at their points of use within the site operation through the strategic and tactical development and management of the supply base, driving sustainable improvements in supplier performances within them to establish a robust and agile supply chain function that has capacity and capability to support the changing Customer needs and those of site operations.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role will be office based in Bridport, Dorset and will involve management of a team in Bridport and oversight of the supply chain function in Sri Lanka. We are looking to appoint a high calibre supply chain professional with extensive experience, who can demonstrate a track record of leading and inspiring teams and individuals.

This role would suit an ambitious and driven individual who is looking for an opportunity to take ownership of our supply chain, develop their skills and knowledge and ultimately to become a part of the AmSafe succession plan and progress their career. Extensive previous experience in a relevant environment, ideally aerospace, is essential as well as significant experience of leadership and management, and management within a multi-site operation.

Role Description

Job Title: Strategic Supply Chain Manager

Reporting to: Site Operations Manager

Location: Bridport, Dorset

Job Purpose

Develop and implement policies and processes covering the selection of suppliers, performance measurement, materials and components purchase and related internal and external liaison with business areas and key suppliers.

Achieve and sustain the on-time arrival of quality compliant materials and components in full at their points of use within the site operation through the strategic and tactical development and management of the supply base, driving sustainable improvements in supplier performances within them to establish a robust and agile supply chain function that has capacity and capability to support the changing Customer needs and those of site operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that supplies of materials and components are available when they are needed to meet changing levels of demand for the Company’s products.
  • Plan and control the sourcing, procurements and deployment of a diverse range of materials, components and services in a timely and cost efficient manner, exercising effective inventory controls to prevent excess inventory, enable ease of cycle counts and rotation of stock and avoid build-up of redundant/obsolete stock.
  • Establish Operational Scorecard, Master Schedule and Policy Targets.
  • Achieve first time through objectives – ensuring right parts are in the right place at the right time.
  • Track and correct supplier performance in respect of service, reliability, quality and price and identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage strategic relationships with key suppliers and industry bodies.
  • Identify key suppliers and new suppliers, establishing long term commercial and ethical supplier relationships that are beneficial to the business and which assure the on-time supply of quality-compliant materials and components to the site.
  • Review RFQs (Requests for Quotations) daily to identify exceptional business opportunities/problems/issues and determine best solutions to the sourcing and purchasing of required materials within the agreed price and timescales.
  • Ensure there are appropriate contractual obligations in supplier agreements which minimise risk to the Company.
  • Allocate, monitor and adjust resources to meet changing delivery needs.
  • Management, training, direction and motivation of staff within the Planning and Procurement activities of the Bridport site.
  • Support the training of the supply chain personnel in developing their skill and knowledge to identify how to maximise the business opportunities presented whilst minimising risk.
  • Develop, govern and maintain documentation in support of key supplier and development initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and support AmSafe Bridport’s continuous improvement programme across site operations.
  • Build good working relationships and to communicate effectively with internal and external colleagues. Promoting a culture of teamwork, co-operation, support and high morale within the department.
  • Manage production and non production inventory levels within budget and ensure compliance to Internal Control standards.
  • Manage obsolescence through effective run in / run out parts management.
  • Keep abreast of changes to appropriate laws governing the UK, US Export/Re-Export controls.
  • Develop and implement solutions that improve and extend the supply chain to improve service to customers and meet or exceed the customer’s needs where possible.
  • Managing and implementing improvement processes and procedures to ensure the efficient receipt, storage, stock management and dispatch of materials.
  • Comply with Health and Safety and all relevant legal and Company policy and procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties specified by the Site Operations Manager.
Specific Skill Requirements
  • Should hold or be willing to work towards the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply “Certificate of Competence in Purchasing and Supply” or the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK).
  • BTEC/HNC/D or similar degree in supply chain management/business studies.

Essential

  • A strong proven track-record in leading major procurement exercises (inviting/selecting tenders, managing contracts) and/or contract development work and/or developing suppliers
  • A proven track-record in making a significant contribution towards developing and improving the procurement function.
  • Extensive experience in buying/sourcing in an Aerospace/Defence environment, with a good understanding of UK Export Controls and an awareness of US Export/Re Export Control Legislation
  • Experience in managing supply chain rationalisation and cost initiatives.
  • Experience of negotiation contracts and agreements with suppliers.
  • Thorough understanding of Supply Chain Management concepts surrounding planning, scheduling and purchasing supplier selection.
  • Computer literacy using Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Project and Power Point.
  • A valid driving licence and a willingness to travel as the job necessitates.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and practical application Six Sigma methodology.
  • Experience of working with Demand Planning principles and worked in a Supply Chain based role on a global level.
  • A strong leader with excellent knowledge of JIT techniques and ideally have been involved in ERP Implementation and Development projects previously.
Key Result Areas

The Company’s three value drivers are: Price / Productivity / New Business.

Annual objectives/targets with hard financial metrics relating to all three value drivers determine the key result areas for the post holder year on year and are supplemented with locally derived performance metrics specific to the Product Line/business unit.

Specific to the role KRAs will include:

  • Conformance to plan (i.e. on-time materials/components supply).
  • Vendor rating scores achieve required standards (through audit and NCR tracking etc).
  • Materials and components sources at best possible prices using all the relevant information to ensure that quotes are competitive.
  • Supplier relationships are developed and monitored to ensure effective sourcing of materials.
  • Reports and information are produced on time and in line with agreed procedures.

Inventory is managed within agreed guidelines.
