AmSafe Bridport has an opportunity for an experienced and career driven Operations Manager to join us in senior leadership role at our head office in Bridport Dorset.

AmSafe is a worldwide market leader for cargo restraints and protection systems in aviation and defence; we design, develop & manufacture world-class engineered textile solutions for the safety & securement needs of the global aerospace and defence industries.

Working with major aircraft manufacturers, our products include airframe safety systems, aircraft safety equipment, cargo restraint solutions and RPG protection.

The successful applicant will control and coordinate all functions within UK Operations, focusing on productivity and resource efficiency, delivery performance, standard margin improvement, product quality, support for engineering projects and cross functional collaboration to achieve company objectives. Responsibility will be held for quality, stores and logistics, procurement, site infrastructure, Health and Safety and environmental issues.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the role will be office based in Bridport, Dorset. We are looking to appoint a high calibre, transformational manufacturing operations professional with hands on experience, who knows what manufacturing excellence looks like and can demonstrate a track record of leading and inspiring teams and individuals.

This role would suit an ambitious and driven individual who is looking for an opportunity to take ownership of site operations, develop their skills and knowledge and ultimately to become a part of the AmSafe succession plan and progress their career. Extensive previous experience in a manufacturing environment is essential as well as significant experience of leadership and management, implementing continuous improvement and management within a multi-site operation.

Job Title Operations Manager

Reporting to Vice President of Operations

Location Bridport, Dorset

Salary £60-£65,000 per annum, Dependent on experience + Discretionary Bonus

Job Purpose:

To control and coordinate all functions within the UK Operations department, focusing on productivity and resource efficiency, delivery performance, standard margin improvement, product quality, support for engineering projects and cross functional collaboration to achieve company objectives.

To hold responsibility for quality, stores and logistics, procurement, site infrastructure, Health and Safety and environmental issues.

To develop people, products and processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To participate as a member of the senior team, contributing towards the growth of the business.
  • To support the development of business plans, budgets and forecasts, identifying key objectives, priorities and resource needs.
  • To implement and communicate operational strategies and solutions in line with the business plan.
  • To lead and manage direct reports and associated teams, ensuring all employees within Operations are managed and trained to meet the changing demands of the business.
  • To demonstrate professional management behaviours and promote a culture of trust and respect, co-operation and high morale within the area of responsibility.
  • To manage and report manufacturing metrics including productivity, on time delivery, sales per head, budget, working capital and inventory to support business decision making.
  • To support the Vice President of Operations to optimize, both financially and logistically, the manufacturing facilities ensuring cost effective and timely production and logistics to achieve customer requirements and production output.
  • To liaise effectively with overseas AmSafe sites, working collaboratively to ensure that global company objectives are achieved.
  • To ensure an effective supply chain operation, directly interfacing with suppliers and customers as required.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of operational efficiency standards and measures by which the performance of areas of responsibility will be measured.
  • To promote a culture of continuous improvement and support continuous improvement programmes.
  • To ensure compliance at all time with regulations and company policies in Health and Safety, Export Control, Quality, Security etc.
  • To ensure products are produced to quality and safety standards, minimizing waste and making best use of all available resources.
  • To monitor the quality of product produced and services provided, and take corrective actions where weaknesses are identified.
  • To support the business in fostering a positive culture built on mutual trust and respect.
  • To recognise links with the community in which we work and our impact on the environment.
  • To promote HR policies and other company policies and procedures, ensuring our standards and values are visible and respected by all employees.
  • To comply with Health and Safety and all relevant legal and company policy and procedures.
  • Any other duties which may be reasonably required for post holder at this level.

Written and oral communication is a very important part of this role. The job holder is required to: –

  • Communicate work related information both orally and in writing primarily to colleagues within the organisation, but also suppliers and customers.
  • Build effective communication channels within the area of responsibility, and other areas across the division and company.
  • Produce reports on performance within the area of responsibility on a regular basis making recommendations for improvement as appropriate.

Planning and Organisation
The job holder is required to: –

  • Plan activities and schedule work to meet customer requirements.
  • Identify areas for improvement in production and use of resources and ensure that new ideas are developed, documented and implemented to agreed standards.
  • Plan and manage for future business development effectively

Analytical and Critical thinking
The job holder is required to: –

  • To make accurate judgments/recommendations to improve productivity within the area of responsibility.
  • To identify weaknesses and areas for improvement. Through the collection and analysis of the relevant data, the jobholder is required to make sound judgments on improvement opportunities and implement the appropriate solution.
  • To make recommendations on maintaining stock levels within agreed limits.

Numeric Ability
Numeracy is a very important part of this job. The ability to produce production plans, budget information and management reports in numerical form is required.

Commercial Awareness
The jobholder requires a sound knowledge of the products and market place in which the company is operating. There is a requirement to apply this knowledge in identifying ways in which the company can grow and develop services to customers in a cost effective manner.

Specific Skill Requirements:

The role requires a combination of educational achievement and business experience in order to have the skills required to perform effectively.

Education

  • A relevant business qualification at Level 3 or above
  • An appropriate business degree or equivalent qualification is desirable.

Experience
Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience within a similar senior role in a manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Experience of management within a multi-site operation.
  • Significant experience of leading and managing individuals and teams, and of coaching and developing people.
  • Extensive experience and track record in implementing continuous improvement and lean initiatives
  • Exceptional organisation skills with good attention to detail, ability to work within timeframes with a professional approach and attitude
  • Well developed communication skills
  • Strong customer service and problem solving skills
  • Experience in developing teams and individuals and supporting through change
  • Self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy or as part of a team
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, flexible and energetic
  • Computer literacy in the use of relevant software
