The role will assume full accountability for the day to day management and performance of the warehouse and logistics department, providing leadership to ensure a quality service is achieved in a safe working environment. To increase productivity and efficiency by driving and implementing continuous improvement and problem solving activities, and support the wider site operations.

This role would suit a confident warehouse and logistics manager with the ability to lead and motivate a team of individuals, to demonstrate an interest in the customer and supplier bases that feed into and from the logistics function and is able to articulate what an effective logistics operation looks like in terms of organisation, processes, and performance metrics. The ideal applicant will be ambitious and keen to develop their skills and knowledge and progress their career with support from the organisation.

The role is full-time and based on-site at our Head Office in Bridport, Dorset. The current working pattern is 39 hours per week 07.00 – 17.15 Monday – Thursday (30 min lunch) with the occasional need to work on a Friday in response to business needs.

Previous experience in a similar role will be essential as will a proven track record of managing and developing a team, meeting agreed financial plans and cost improvement targets, producing and presenting accurate reports and maintaining good relationships both internally and externally to a business. Training and development will be available and there are opportunities for individuals to work towards progression within the business.

The Role & Purpose

Job Title: Logistics Manager

Reporting to: Site Operations Manager

Location: Bridport, Dorset

The Logistics Manager has full accountability for the day to day management and performance of the warehouse and logistics department, providing leadership to the Logistics team to ensure a quality service is achieved in a safe working environment. To increase productivity and efficiency by driving and implementing continuous improvement and problem solving activities, and support the wider site operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • To manage all elements with the warehouse/logistics function through receiving goods inspection, inventory management and dispatch ensuring deliveries and receipts of goods and/or services are achieved on time and within the allocated budget.
  • Ensure material preservation is upheld and stock accuracies are maintained.
  • Develop; lead and implement transformation plans that improve processes and procedures.
  • Control annual department budgets and operational plans in line with sales volume; economic trends and business objectives.
  • Play an active role as a key member of the site operations / management team and develop best practices and levels of performance.
  • Undertaking line manager responsibility for the Logistics team including development and performance goals, workforce planning, absence management and employee wellbeing and motivation.
  • Provide accurate performance metrics data on a daily basis and present to the business as required.
  • Produce regular monthly reports in line with Company’s requirements.
  • Control the movement, storage and reconciliation of inventory, maintaining compliance with Company Operating Procedures and External Regulatory requirements and transactional accuracy on ERP system.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and direct the daily work activities of the department, setting priorities and scheduling work to meet production plans and customer expectations.
  • Contribute to site productivity savings and take ownership of cost improvement for the Logistics department.
  • Ensure that all Non-Conforming parts are removed out of the supply chain and quarantined.
  • Work closely at a cross functional level with a full understanding of the business supply chain.
  • Ensure high standards of health, safety, hygiene and security are maintained at all times.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and support AmSafe’s Operational Excellence programme.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external colleagues. Attending and contributing to internal meetings and relevant committees such as Health and Safety.
  • Keep up to date with changes to relevant governing laws and contractual requirements through UK, US Export /Re-Export controls.
  • Comply with Health and Safety and all relevant legal and Company policy and procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties specified by the Site Operations Manager.

Specific Skill Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Extensive logistics / warehouse experience working with sound knowledge of stock and inventory control methodology and auditing, ideally in a highly regulated or engineered environment.
  • Proven experience managing; leading and developing a small / medium size team in fast moving supply chain environments.
  • Can demonstrate success leading a warehouse / logistics improvement project.
  • Experience of working to budgets and meeting agreed financial plans.
  • High level of numeracy and attention to detail in daily work and ability to produce meaningful metrics and reports and present them to the business at a variety of levels.
  • Proven understanding of H&S systems, manual handling and the safe movement of goods together with the ability to identify and resolve safety issues as they arise.
  • Hands on experience of ERP / Operating systems such as Syteline, SAP or other contemporary operating systems.
  • Previous experience working within a quality systems environment i.e. TS 16949; AS 9100 or ISO 9001)

Desirable Experience

  • Experienced working in a Security Cleared facility.
  • Working knowledge of EASA Part 145 and sub part 21G regulations.
  • Familiar with export licencing control and ITAR.
  • Previous experience with working with freight forwarders and customs clearance.
  • Good planning/scheduling / prioritising skills.
  • Possesses practitioner level understanding and awareness of lean/continuous improvement tools and techniques.
